A local guide to eating well in Maroubra

Coco%27s Wealth of Health, Maroubra

We have been on Anzac Parade since 2014. Coco grew up in Maroubra, and the shop came out of a feeling that there was a gap in the area for somewhere you could get the harder to find things without driving to the inner west.

This is a guide to what we actually do, for anyone who has walked past and wondered, and for anyone searching for a health food shop in the Eastern Suburbs who has not been in yet.

Where we are

936 Anzac Parade, Maroubra NSW 2035. Open Monday to Sunday. You can call us on 02 9349 4689, and the map and enquiry form are on our contact page.

We are on the main run of shops, which means parking is the usual Anzac Parade lottery. The side streets behind are generally kinder than the main road.

What is in the window

The vegan dessert cabinet is the thing most people stop for. What is in it changes week to week depending on what has come in, but it is sourced from small Australian makers rather than a wholesaler. Loco Love from Byron Bay, The Mimistry in Caringbah, MMMORE in Botany, Folklore Wholefoods from Torquay, Sweet Nectar and Plant Baked from Queensland, and Addiction Foods in Marrickville.

Salted caramel slice, peanut butter stuffed dates, snickers slice, pistachio cups. All of it raw or vegan or gluten free or some combination, and none of it tastes like a compromise.

What we keep on the shelves

Around four thousand lines across five departments. The short version:

  • Grocery is the biggest part of the shop. Pantry staples, breads, cereals, snacks, oils, vinegars, spices, and a Japanese section that surprises people.
  • Supplements covers vitamins, protein powders, collagen, probiotics and practitioner style ranges.
  • Body is natural skin care, hair, dental, deodorant, essential oils and a proper natural make up range.
  • Household is eco cleaning, laundry, kitchen and refillable bits.
  • Baby and Kids for baby food, teething and pregnancy.

A few things people tend to come back for specifically:

Hard to find is the point

The reason to walk into a shop like ours rather than order from a warehouse is the stuff that does not make it into a supermarket range. Coco spends a lot of time chasing small Australian suppliers, and where there is a choice between a big brand and a good local one we will usually stock the local one.

If we do not have something, ask. A decent proportion of what is on the shelves is there because a customer asked for it.

If you are not local

We ship Australia wide. Flat rate $12.50, free over $150, and orders go out in one to three business days. The details are on our delivery page. Boxes go out in reused packaging, which is sometimes visibly reused, and we are unapologetic about that.

Otherwise, come in. We are here seven days and happy to talk through anything on the shelf.
