Good for you, good for the planet
Not only are they colorful and full of flavour, beetroots are an antioxidant and nutrient rich root vegetable. Beetroot powder is a good source of folate and a source of fibre, vitamin C and potassium. Beetroots contain naturally occurring plant nitrates which may reduce inflammation, support healthy blood flow to the body and increase energy, stamina and endurance during and after exercise. The red pigment betalain provides antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support.
Ways to enjoy
Beetroot powder has a sweet earthy flavour and adds a vibrant red colour to cooking. Enjoy mixed into smoothies, hot chocolate, added to sweet or savoury dishes such as dips and soups or as a pre or post workout drink to support endurance and recovery.
Origins of beetroot
Beets originate from the Mediterranean. Grown mostly for their greens by the Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, it wasn't until the 17th Century that the roots were used in cooking. Beets have also historically been used as colourants and for medicinal purposes.
